(More customer reviews)This little "Read-it! Readers" book is a Yellow Level.Yellow level books are supposed to have more challenging ideas, more challenging vocabulary, and a variety of sentences.Since that is not a terribly helpful description for moms and other people, I went and looked up the 'Accelerated Reading' description. The AR designation is 1.9;or in other words "The Ant and the Grasshopper" is basically at thesecond grade level.[1.9 really translates as a book for first graders in their 9th month of school.Since children vary in their accomplishments at this age don't take this number as written in stone. It is however a good way to judge level after you figure our where your child(ren) currently stand on its scale.]
More difficult vocabulary includes: field, serious, harvested, begged, bored, neighbor, and knocked.
Here is some actual text from two pages that you can also use to judge appropriateness.
The ant woke early
each summer morning.
He was a serious worker.
From sunrise until sunset,
the ant harvested food.
He stored it in his home.
Three Stars. The theme for this version of the classic Aesop story is best summed up by the final sentence in the book:"There's a time for play and a time for work."This is a nice book that retells the classic Aesop tale in words that fairly accomplished readers can understand and enjoy.Artwork is cute and colorful.Okay Read-aloud.Sentences are presented in large font and 'chunked' phrases.AR [Accelerated Reading] designation is 1.9.
