"The Ant Lucy and the Hurricane" by Carmen Navarro-Talavera is a book about an ant named Lucy who is well prepared for a hurricane and her not-so-prepared cricket friend Lola.I think the purpose of this book is to encourage people to be prepared for hurricanes.
The first part of the book is a story about ant Lucy trying to encourage her friend to get prepared for the hurricane that has been on the news.Lola says that Lucy worries too much and that there will probably be a little rain but nothing too serious. The next day, as the news predicted, the hurricane hit their village and Lola the cricket was not prepared. She had no water and no food and her car was out of gas entirely and her cell phone wasn't charged. But, Ant Lucy was prepared. She had lots of food and water and her cell phone was charged and she had a full tank of gasoline. In the end, after the hurricane, Lola comes to Lucy's house all muddy and hungry and thirsty.Lola says she will be more prepared next time. The story had a lot of bright, colorful pictures.
After the story, there is a script for a play about Ant Lucy and Lola, a homework page to write out definitions of words related to hurricanes, and a note to parents about involving kids in preparing for a hurricane.
I would recommend "The Ant Lucy and the Hurricane" by Carmen Navarro-Talavera to people who are afraid of hurricanes and people who live in areas where hurricanes are common.
