ABNA 2010
Robert Leland Taylor
A SUNDAY STROLL THROUGH THE ANT FARM, by Robert Leland Taylor, is a very unusual read. The voice in the piece is wonderful; it is engaging, consistence, and quite distinctive. The characters are well developed and interesting. The pacing is very good, and the writing is excellent over all.Funny and intelligent, this excerpt from A SUNDAY STROLL THROUGH THE ANT FARM really caught my attention.
In A SUNDAY STROLL THROUGH THE ANT FARM, we meet Grip, who is in prison for killing his father, who by all accounts, deserved it.We learn that Grip is up for parole, that he has a deep-seated crush on a newswoman named Lisa, and that his is having a kind of "romance" with an older woman who visits him in prison and brings him things. The author has done a very good job of creating a dark character that the reader actually finds likeable, and about whom we want to know more.
The issues that I mentioned in last year's version of A SUNDAY STOLL THROUGH THE ANT FARM have all been eradicated. This excerpt is fresh, polished, and ready for prime time. A SUNDAY STROLL THROUGH THE ANT FARM is a quirky, interesting, entertaining read, and I hope to read the full book someday.Well done.
