Effie Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)We received our copy of "Effie" is a grab-bag of books from a summer reading program. It quickly became one of my children's all-time favorite books. It is the story of Effie, who doesn't fit in with all the other ants because of her enormously loud voice.Actually, nobody wants to talk with Effie, even after she sets out in search of new friends. Finally, when all the other insects are in a panic because they are afraid of being stepped on by the elephants, Effie's tremendous voice saves the day.The elephants, of course, don't realize they are about to walk on the bugs, and promise to do better.Effie is the heroine, making new friends among both the insects and the elephants.A great story for reading aloud, and the illustrations are witty and unique.

(More customer reviews)This is one of the most creative books I've seen in a long time. The illustrations are also warm and funny. The simple single alphabet words are hysterical and orginal. My personal favorites are the mad scientist ant who is brilliANT, the punk rocker who is a deviANT and the huddled family of immigrANTs.Well done and kudos to the author.

Pee Wee Ant Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is a great story! Very cute, something that all children can relate too. A very good early reader too, for kids who starting to master sight words and high frequency words, or even comprehention tasks such as sequence of events, inference, main idea, and details (can you tell I'm a teacher? LOL). I am very pleased, and my kids loved it. The illustrations are so well-done. Too cute! I love the page where Pee Wee Ant says his tears hardly make a splash, and the picture is perfect. I look forward to seeing my picture books coming from this debut author-illustrator team! Great first book! Can't wait for more!

Ant-tuition (Miss Spider) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)In this "Miss Spider" story, based on the television story by the same name, Squirt just wants to play and doesn't want to help out with getting the Cozy Hole ready for winter. When he talks with the lazy ants Ned and Ted, they tell him that they're not worried about winter --- their "ant-tuition" has told them that winter isn't going to be coming any time soon. In fact, they decided to throw a huge Summer's-Never-Ending party and they're invited everyone in Sunny Patch to come and celebrate the continued warm weather.

Squirt learns that it's not a good idea to follow a hunch. Miss Spider and Holley show him that there are objective signs that prove that winter is coming, no matter what Ted and Ned might say.

The lesson of this book is preparedness and like many other "Miss Spider" books, this one teaches its lesson well. If you or your kids enjoy the television series, then you'll love this as well. This is book # in the "Miss Spider" paperback readers series of books based direclty on the television stories.

The Ant and the Grasshopper (Aesop's Fables) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Classic Greek literature that has proved both popular and relevant generation after generation down through the centuries is best exemplified by the collection of stories known as 'Aesop's Fables'. More than being simple entertainments, each anthropomorphic tale carried a special moral that was unique accessible and understanding. Now eight of these timeless tales have been retold by Graham Percy for the delight and edification of children preschool through the third grade. This outstanding series includes "The Ant and the Grasshopper"; "The City Mouse and the Country Mouse"; "The Fox and the Crow"; The Fox and the Stork"; "The Heron and the Fish"; The Lion and the Mouse"; The Mice in Council; and "The Tortoise and the Hare". The individual 32-page titles come with a reinforced library binding, a special section defining the fables and providing cogent explanations of their moral lessons, plus a brief introduction to the author and illustrator. Ideal for both school and community libraries, and although available individually, acquisition of the entire series of "Aesop's Fables" as a set is especially recommended for the benefit of young readers.

The Ant and the Elephant Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The creatures in the jungle are having a bad day.One after another, they are facing problems that they can't get out of.Then the elephant comes along and helps them all.But who will help him when he needs it?

This is a really a take on Aesop's classic story of the lion and the mouse with a few more creatures thrown in to show unthankfulness.Still, this is a great book that kids will love. The storyline is simple enough for them to follow easily, and Bill Peet's illustrations are outstanding.

With good stories and wonderful pictures, Bill Peet created some excellent picture books.Don't let this great author pass you by.
